چکیده

Recently, the mechanisms of storage and release of catecholamine in various tissues have become a topic of interest. The present study is on the mechanism of release of catecholamine from the adrenal medulla in an in vitro system. The adrenal medulla seems to provide a suitable system for such an in vitro study, because it contains large amounts of catecholamine in chromaffine granules, about which is much information available (1-8). Substances known to alter membrane permeability, namely excess potassium ion and acetylcholine were examined. The effects of tyramine and reserpine, drugs which deplete tissue stores of catecholamine were also examined with this system. A preliminary report of part of this work has been published (9).

Involvement of Endothelin-1 in Adrenal Catecholamine Regulation

Aims: The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the significance of the endothelin system in catecholamine release and synthesis in the adrenal gland. Main Methods: Primary cultures of isolated bovine adrenal medullary cells were prepared. Gene expression, intracellular calcium changes, epinephrine release, and other factors were investigated. Key findings: Expression of endothelin recep...

Spatial and activity‐dependent catecholamine release in rat adrenal medulla under native neuronal stimulation

Neuroendocrine chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla in rat receive excitatory synaptic input through anterior and posterior divisions of the sympathetic splanchnic nerve. Upon synaptic stimulation, the adrenal medulla releases the catecholamines, epinephrine, and norepinephrine into the suprarenal vein for circulation throughout the body. Under sympathetic tone, catecholamine release is mode...

Role of TrkB expression in rat adrenal gland during acute immobilization stress

Expression of tyrosine receptor kinase B (TrkB), a receptor for brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), is markedly elevated in the adrenal medulla during immobilization stress. Catecholamine release was confirmed in vitro by stimulating chromaffin cells with recombinant BDNF. We investigated the role of TrkB and the localization of BDNF in the adrenal gland during immobilization stress for 6...

NPY regulates catecholamine secretion from human adrenal chromaffin cells.

The aim of the present work was to find out whether NPY synthesized in human adrenal chromaffin cells controls in an autocrine/paracrine fashion the release of catecholamines by these cells. Accordingly, the constitutive and regulated release of both NPY and catecholamines was measured simultaneously in cultured human chromaffin cells. In addition, by using both RT-PCR and a combination of spec...

Nongenomic glucocorticoid effects on activity-dependent potentiation of catecholamine release in chromaffin cells.

Adrenal medulla chromaffin cells are neuroendocrine and modified sympathetic ganglion cells. Catecholamines released from chromaffin cells mediate the fight-or-flight response or alert reaction against dangerous conditions. Here we report that short-term treatment with glucocorticoids, released from adrenal cortex cells in response to chronic stress, inhibits activity-dependent potentiation (AD...
